SUMMARY:AEC 2
DESCRIPTION:What this course covers\nThe Approved Engine Course (AEC 2) is a five-day\, 35-hour course in Simon’s Town that builds on AEC 1 and shifts the focus from how marine engines work to keeping them running\, with routine servicing\, fault diagnosis and practical repairs at sea. It’s designed for crew who already hold AEC 1 and want to take on engineering responsibility aboard yachts and other small vessels\, or captains of smaller boats who need to be confident opening the engine hatch themselves. \nYou’ll work through planned maintenance schedules\, diagnosing faults from changes in temperature\, pressure\, noise and vibration\, servicing generators\, pumps and compressors\, electrical and steering systems\, and hands-on workshop skills\, with continuous practical assessment and a written exam on the final day that needs 60% to pass. \nOn completion you’ll receive the MCA-approved AEC 2 certificate\, which together with AEC 1 lets your sea service start counting towards higher engineering qualifications and opens up work on workboats\, tugs\, research vessels and patrol craft as well as yachts.
