What this course covers

The MCA STCW Basic Safety Training course is a five-day course in Hout Bay that gives you the mandatory safety training every seafarer needs before they can legally work on board a vessel. It’s designed for anyone starting out in yachting or the wider maritime industry, whether you’re heading for deck, interior, engineering or the galley, with no previous experience or sea time required.

You’ll learn sea survival in the pool and open water, including launching and righting life-rafts, fight real fires in a live burn facility, practise first aid and CPR for injuries that happen at sea, and cover shipboard safety, emergency procedures and life on board, with practical assessment after each module.

On completion you’ll receive your STCW Basic Safety certificates, the first thing crew agencies look for.
