What this course covers
The 4 Week Superyacht Deckhand Course is a four-week course in Hout Bay, Cape Town that gives you the core qualifications and practical skills crew agencies and captains look for before hiring an entry-level deckhand. It’s designed for school leavers, career-changers and anyone serious about starting a career in yachting, with no previous sea time required.
You’ll learn to drive and handle RIB tenders, including close-quarters work, coming alongside and man overboard recovery, complete your STCW Basic Safety Training with sea survival, firefighting and personal safety modules, and cover watchkeeping, ropework, safety equipment and safe working practices for your Yacht Rating.
On completion you’ll hold the IYT RIB Master ticket, your STCW Basic Safety certificates and an MCA Yacht Rating course-completion certificate, ready to apply for work in time for the Mediterranean or Caribbean season.
